The problem with waiting when there's a risk of ectopic pregnancy is that the longer it goes, the more likely it is to cause rupture of the tube, which often means surgery and the loss of the fallopian tube. If it's caught early enough, rather than losing the tube and so on, a dose of methotrexate can often resolve things and preserve the tube.

If you can swing it, I highly suggest the sonogram sooner rather than later.

This seems faster than the special sonogram.
Internet information said a pregnancy test should show it.

The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced by the placenta, appears in the blood and urine as early as 10 days after conception, and its levels double every 2 days for the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. If hCG levels are lower than expected for your stage of pregnancy, doctors are one step closer to diagnosing ectopic pregnancy.

I once had Salpingitis, the Dr`s thought it might be a tubal pregnancy. My pain was lower (R) back(my affected side).......awful!
