How normal is it to miscarry after one normal, healthy pregnancy? Anyone else experienced this?

Steph asked:

I had a healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby in January 06 than miscarried at 8 weeks in June 07. I havent heard of many people having normal pregnancies and then a miscarriage. Has anyone experianced this and if so did you go on to have another normal pregnancy?

It’s possible! How old are you? That could play a little factor!

A miscarriage isn’t the end of the world. A very high percentage of women have them and go on to give birth to beautiful, healthy babies.

I had a very healthy normal by the book pregnancy giving birth in ’98 and then two yrs later miscarried in the 2nd trimester. Three months after that I got preg with my second and again had a text book pregnancy giving birth in ’00. We are on our third viable preg now. It is amazingly very typical to miscarry. When we did, I did a lot of research trying to find a cause and found out that 1 in 10 pregnancies will have an outome of miscarriage. It is on the rise not because woman are having them more often but because there are tests now that tell you sooner that you are pregnant. Most woman years ago would miscarry and never even know it. It would just be assumed that it was a heavier odd period.
There is NO explaination for the miscarriage we had. But, if it hadn’t happened we wouldn’t have our youngest now. Sometimes the worst experiences in life are blessings in disguise.
    I hope this helped some!!

Just from talking to others, I was told that the chance of miscarriage was higher in your second pregnancy then in your first. Don’t know why.
    Good luck
